As one of the youngest ever to win the coveted Emmy Award, Tom Bernthal has been recognized by his peers as one of America's rising stars in litigation research, consumer behavior, communications and marketing.

After honing his skills working in communications for the White House and traveling the world for NBC News, Bernthal is now a sought after and skilled consultant and moderator for Jury Insight.

Bernthal has written, supervised, produced or conducted more than 1,000 focus groups, surveys and Instant Response sessions.  His research has assessed the views of more than 1 million Americans.  He has moderated in 42 of the 50 states, in four countries, and in three languages.

In just the past five years, Bernthal has been tapped to help create compelling messages by both Fortune 500 companies and some of the nation's most prominent law firms. 

Tom developed his Midwestern values at The University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he founded a student marketing agency and ran the nation’s third oldest collegiate newspaper, The Daily Cardinal.

Gareth came to Jury Insight from the world of political journalism.  One of the youngest members of the White House Correspondent's Association, Gareth covered the White House and Capitol Hill, honing his communication skills daily on local and nationally syndicated radio, Fox News Channel and CNN, and as an embedded correspondent covering the War In Iraq. 

Since then, Gareth has moderated and analyzed hundreds of litigation focus groups on a broad range of issues, including medical malpractice, toxic tort, product liability, class action, and complex business transactions.

His background in radio and television has given Gareth an excellent window into how to craft and deliver messages — and simplify complex ideas — in a manner that piques the interest of jurors. 

Gareth spent his university years north of the border at McGill University in Montreal studying political science, economics, and Spanish.

Kai Sakstrup joined Jury Insight after a decade of experience in strategic management consulting and general management.  Most recently, Kai worked in the Boston office of Bain & Company,  where he crafted corporate strategy for firms ranging from the Global 1000 to small start-ups.  Kai’s specific consulting specialty spans a wide variety of industries including retail, consumer packaged goods, healthcare, technology, industrial goods, and private equity.

Kai has helped companies build strategies to enter new markets and geographies, re-brand and re-energize mature products,  benchmark key performance indicators against competitors, and develop investment strategies. 

Also an entrepreneur, Kai took a managing role in an existing regional small business and under his leadership the company created a national footprint and sales force.  Kai crafted and executed growth strategies that created 300% growth in revenue and 250% growth in profitability over a 6 year period and he still advises the firm today.

Kai earned an MBA with distinction from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University where he was also named the Theodore Krasnow Scholar for academic and entrepreneurial achievement.

Paul Bragan is a classically-trained opinion researcher with extensive experience leading corporate, political, legal, and media-based studies.  Paul serves as the firm’s chief quantitative researcher.

Paul’s specific field experience covers an extensive range of methodologies – from targeted quantitative polling to focus-groups and in-depth interviewing.  Paul has also developed proprietary methodologies for specific clients needing more innovative and dynamic ways to understand their key constituencies.

Paul’s original research training comes from spending several years working at Washington communication firms like the Lazarus Group and The Luntz Research Companies.  Prior to joining Jury Insight, Paul directed research as Vice-President at Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates for clients such as Microsoft, Procter and Gamble, The Home Depot, and ConAgra.

He has developed research-based statistical models for clients like Verizon and TXU Energy to better simulate the actual decision-making processes of consumers and help anticipate how markets will respond to important decisions.  Since coming to Jury Insight, Paul has developed a polling methodology specific to litigation research, allowing JI to identify and hone the specific language and messages that resonate with jurors.

Paul is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, DC where he studied international and domestic politics.

Richelle Lyon exemplifies Jury Insight’s unique approach to trial consulting – the application of marketing, messaging, and psychology experience to courtroom message strategy. Prior to joining Jury Insight, Richelle crafted unique research methodologies, drafted, fielded, and analyzed community attitudes studies, and moderated messaging sessions and mock trials for Trial Behavior Consulting. Her background in corporate communications and research for automotive giant Honda, and her marketing planning and research coordination at Mattel, Inc. gave her considerable experience in translating research findings into effective consumer communications. Richelle’s broad experience in both litigation and consumer research and messaging make her uniquely qualified as a trial consultant.

After obtaining a BA in psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara, Richelle completed her Masters degree in research psychology at Pepperdine University. Richelle is also a member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology. Richelle is fluent in Spanish, and has lived in both Europe and South America - a privilege she earned after being awarded a full scholarship to study abroad from the Peace Corps.

Kara Scharwath comes to Jury Insight with a background in social research and conflict resolution. As a corporate mediation consultant with Taylor Wiseman & Taylor, she facilitated complex business transactions between competing industry giants like ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil, and with environmental agencies at all levels of government.

Kara also has experience resolving complicated and highly contentious social issues with concerned public citizens. Working closely with stakeholders from all walks of life—from corporate CEOs to rural community citizens—has provided her with an intricate knowledge and understanding of how different people process information based on how the facts are presented to them.

Kara earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Policy, Institutions and Behaviors from Rutgers University. There she was recognized as a George H. Cook Honors Scholar. 

At Jury Insight, her highly-developed social conflict and communication skills give Kara the ability to analyze the broader context of case jurisdictions, to communicate effectively with jurors, and to anticipate their reactions.

Drew joins Jury Insight with a unique background that merges Wall Street with Hollywood.  The youngest Vice President at top New York asset management firm Fred Alger Management, Drew led a five-person team charged both with deal analysis and with shepherding Alger’s brand across all client touch-points.  His adaptability was further tested when – in the wake of September 11, 2001 – he worked alongside Alger’s surviving Founder, CEO and CMO to successfully reconstruct multiple aspects of the firm’s devastated corporate structure and restore over $3 billion lost client assets. 

This deep capital markets experience is complemented by Drew’s creative experience at Big 3 Hollywood talent agency International Creative Management (ICM).  At ICM he worked with renowned agents to assess incoming film and TV proposals’ concept, production costs, award potential and profit potential.

Since joining Jury Insight, Drew has drawn on his analytic and artistic strengths to quickly and concisely synthesize case arguments and to analyze focus group participant data for a wide range of legal cases, including those involving healthcare, tax and corporate issues. 

Drew earned his MBA at Harvard Business School.  A deeply-involved leader in the business school community, Drew served on the executive committees of the Harvard Business School Entertainment and Media Conference and Open for Business.

Cameron Meyer comes to Jury Insight with years of experience as a project manager at one of the biggest post-production companies in the Los Angeles area.  She has been on the receiving end of thousands of hours of programming for projects ranging from feature films and award-winning documentaries, to electronic press kits, to footage for news programs and reality shows, to educational films and corporate presentations.  She specialized in creating deliverables for international distribution companies, working with all the major studios and networks as well as high-profile independent producers.  In her five-year tenure, she built all the department’s standard operating procedures and doubled its yearly revenue. 

Cameron has a strong background in the performing arts as well as experience in marketing and customer service.  She has received extensive training in project management and communication skills, and excels at team-building as well as guiding technical, detail-oriented projects through from start to finish. 

Cameron graduated magna cum laude from Yale specializing in American culture and history. 

Eric Feinberg’s experience spans consulting, online marketing, and research.  For the past 10 years, Eric has advised companies like Citi, Avaya, Patagonia, Yahoo, and GMAC Mortgage on how to improve their consumer experience.  As technologies and trends change, Eric maintains his awareness and command of how best to understand and motivate the consumer on behalf of his clients.  He maintains a particular expertise in applying technology-driven and customer experience research to bottom line revenue by creating a causal link between behavioral and attitudinal analytics.

He has consulted and managed business development efforts for online customer satisfaction measurement company ForeSee Results, usability company Keynote, and CRM strategy consultancy Wheelhouse.  Utilizing a multi-method approach to measure, manage and improve brand performance, Eric’s expertise and experience quickly creates his role as a trusted advisor to his clients.

Eric graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in English.

Carla Rodman brings to Jury Insight a broad array of knowledge and skills stemming from a diverse professional background. With prior experience in public affairs and advertising sales, she most recently worked for a leading national investor relations and financial communications firm. In this capacity, Carla helped develop and implement targeted communications programs for both public and private companies.

Through her previous work in business and communications, including posts at the KTLA Morning News in Los Angeles, the office of Senator Dianne Feinstein and as a legal clerk for the public defender, Carla has honed in-depth research, analytical and communications skills.

Carla earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science with a minor in business from Washington University in St. Louis.

Scott Carter joined Jury Insight after a lengthy stint as a senior researcher at Washington DC communications firm Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates where he specialized in advertising and corporate branding research, conducting hundreds of studies for fortune 500 companies such as Coca-Cola, Safeway, and Nextel.

Scott has helped corporations, advertising and public relations firms create communication strategies to build and refresh brands, measure ad campaign effectiveness, and deposition competitive threats.

Scott graduated from the University of Virginia where he earned a B.A. in Economics with a concentration in finance.

Tessa Munro joined Jury Insight after ten years in the corporate world, working in both human resources and management.  Most recently, Tessa worked directly with the General Manager in an Executive Office for Starwood Hotels.  For nearly five years, she handled any issues that arose with guests and employees as well as consulted with the marketing division.  Previously, she played a part in developing human resource departments at Fox Studios, Tribe Studios and The Argyle Hotel. 

In addition to the hospitality industry, Tessa gained knowledge within the healthcare field when she worked at the National Institutes of Health.  She also enjoyed a position at Gemeinschaft Halfway House helping non-violent felons on parole and probation develop into contributing members of society.   

Tessa graduated from James Madison University with a Summa Cum Laude distinction, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Speech Communication and French. 

Furthermore, she was the sole annual recipient of JMU’s Paris Studies Abroad Academic Scholarship.
